Zoolander!

ATTENTION!!!!!!

Dell has come out with the iPad's first true competitor! They are releasing a 7" tablet, which is a full 2.7" smaller than the iPad. Also in the works to be released within the next 6 months are a 3", 4", 5" AND 10" devices. Products will be running Google's Android operating system and some will be running Microsoft's Windows.

So we're getting closer and closer the the Zoolander-esque types of technology. Just make things smaller and smaller and smaller... hell, I'm scared I'm going to lose my state-of-the-art technology or accidentally leave it in my pocket and thrown it in the wash like a wrinkled dollar bill.

But wait...is it necessary to release five products with almost the exact same capabilities in order to compete with one of Apple's products? Should they have focused on mastering more capabilities to apply to one or two products? This feels like more of an "anything you can do, I can do better" kind of marketing strategy. They expect revenues to exceed $60 billion with the release of their new tablets. But does the technology back up the aggressive numbers and marketing expectations? As an Apple fan, I hope they do. I want Apple to have a serious technological competitor. Competition breeds innovation. I'm extremely interested to see what Apple can do with a little kick! I guess we'll see!

  1. Worrying about your electronic devices and whether you took them out of your pockets before washing is definately a major problem. The smaller and smaller they make these items, the easier they are to lose. However, I am one who is all for technology. I love to see what the new products they are coming out with are and how much improvement have been made in them. I can't wait to see if they can live up to their expectations. To all the technology companies out there bring it on!

  2. I am eager to see what Dell's version will be like. I am a dell fan and I like apple too, but I am not much of a user except for my Ipod. I like it when competition between companies makes things less expensive and more available to me.

  3. I actually think it's good because the consumer can choose the size of the product they are looking for, based on what they will be using it for. I wrote about this in one of my past blogs. Everything will be a computer soon enough...3" or 10", it's all the same. The real question is can they make a 60" one for your living room?

  4. Competition does breed innovation, and we are definitely the ones that stand to benefit! I remember when the first iPhone came out and it was $600 to get it. Luckily, more phones came out and eventually competition led to better models at cheaper prices. I got the 3GS for what I felt was a great price and it's only a matter of time until these iPads are $100-200 a piece, with more features.

  5. When I was researching the new Dell tablets I was excited to see that they were planning on using the Android operating system. This open platform will allow for developers to create different applications and generally just give the user more options. As a current Android phone user I'm excited to see android make it to the "big" (touch) screen.
